Abhinav Bindra Announces Retirement, After Missing Medal At Rio
India’s most decorated shooter and golden got Abhinav Bindra retired from the sport after missing out on another Olympic medal ,Abhinav came fourth in the 10m air rifle event in Rio de Janeirio at the Olympic Shooting Centre on Monday, August 8 and missed to clinch a bronze to whisker.
Though Bindra lost one of the biggest chance of his life but still he managed to keep calm and did not broke up and did not show his emotions.
“It is my job to be composed. I do not want to break down in front of you. I knew this was coming and I am at peace with it. I did my best but ended up fourth. No medal but very close. Had a good day, but it didn’t pay off,” Bindra told reporters after the end of the event at Rio Olympics.
Bindra will be soon 34 and he made clear that there are no chances of him to be back on the shooting range.
“I am done, I have announced my retirement, so there is no reconsideration. I am not going to shoot again. This is it. I support youngsters already. I support 30 young shooters through my foundation. I will try and do the best I can,” he said.
And when he was asked about whether he will be doing hobby shooting this is what he said “”I am turning that into a vegetable garden. Are you serious? he was asked, “don’t I look like a serious person,” he replied.”
And when he was asked to comment about other Indian athletes he said “”Not at this juncture. It’s not my job to become their coaches. They have their support staff,”
This was the fifth Olympic for Bindra .he started his Olympic journey in Sydney back in 2000 and ended in Rio .and being the only golden shooter for India is really a pride and It’s really the end of an era and Indian fans will have to find new reasons to watch the sport.
