Capturing the journey to parenthood!
Businessman Prateek Jain could not believe his ears when his wife, Aditi told him that he was going to be a father! He had waited for four years to hear this good news, and was not going to let go this moment without saving it.
He planned a maternity photo shoot for his wife and himself to tap their nine-month journey to parenthood. “We wanted to document every change that happened as our baby grew,” exclaims Prateek who got the photos clicked of every month.
The photo shoot for every month include shots of Aditi’s growing baby bump, sonogram of the baby, shopping day for the baby, couple’s photos in different weather , photos with their pet dog (who’s going to be baby’s best friend), mother’s craving for food, etc. “I will have so many stories to tell to my baby with these photos about his or her birth and share about our excitement,” smiles Aditi who is due mid-March.
Like Aditi and Prateek, many Indore’s would be parents are opting for maternity photo shoot to make their journey memorable. The trend has caught up in last one year following the idea of pre-wedding photo and video shoot. According to local photographers, there is about 15-20 percent rise every month in number of people getting this photo shoot done.
“This is an international trend. It recently became viral because of social media and Bollywood celebs making news with pregnancy,” shares photographer Sanjeet Chouhan.
Another would be mom, Priyanka Agrawal said that maternity shoot is an answer to the hectic schedule that make it difficult for people to save memories. “Earlier, members of joint family and neighbors used to help to preserve stories of baby birth. It is difficult now with working parents and their busy routine where we don’t get time to even talk,” points Priyanka while adding, “The time couple spends during photo shoot spice up their relationship, and makes them more excited for the arrival of the baby.”
Agreeing with her, photographer Abdul Rasul Stationwala says that it also let couple explore their creative minds and engage them in fun activities. “Couples research and come up with their ideas for photoshoots, theme, colours and destination for shoot. While implementing these ideas with photographer, they spend quality time with each other which is very much required at such stage of their relationship, “believes Abdul who is a founder of Alif Studio, Indore.
This concept is widely popular amongst those who understand photography and like to experiment with new things. The cost of maternity shoot varies from Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 50,000 , and is expected to rise with changing trends.
Talking about upcoming trend, Abdul explains the city will see association of experts from different sectors besides photography with maternity shoot. “The fashion designers, stylists and art directors will involve with maternity shoot in coming days to give final shape to concept, theme and final look of parents. We expect Indorians to welcome this trend as they are always eager to try out new ideas,” he concludes.
Five tips for beautiful maternity photos
Tips by photographer Abdul Rasul Stationwala
1. Choose your photographer wisely. The understanding and communication with photographer is very important. Organise few sessions with photographer and explain him about your vision and ideas before the final shoot.
2. Prepare yourself mentally before the shoot, and schedule your session when you are in seventh or eighth month of pregnancy because this is the time when your belly has beautiful shape.
3. Clothes, hairstyle and accessories play major roles in beautiful pictures. The colourful form-fitting clothes with little stretch instead of loose clothing will compliment your appearance. When it comes to accessories, a cheerful scarf, sweater or chunky jewellery will add to the desired look.
4. Add baby things to photos like cute pair of shoes, dresses or posters.
5. The involvement of father and older children (if any) will give glimpse of your beautiful family and will make an adorable picture.
