Cool Trip to Blue Ocean Waters in Maharashtra
One major attraction that gave this place its popularity is the Ganpatiphule temple that sees long lines at any time of the day. Most tourists come here for the temple as it’s one of Maharashtra’s devotional hotspots like Shirdi. The best part is that this temple has a pristine, well maintained blue water beach to add to it. Early morning might be a good idea if you want to beat the crowds.
Being a coastal town, Ratnagiri boasts of several fishing communities all over. And if you love fish, that’s wonderful news. Food may not necessarily be cheap here, but it’s worth it. Go for a thali, if you want to experience a typical staple Konkan meal.
As mentioned, this beach has just one resort – The Oceano Pearl, but the nearby town called Pawas (around 5 kms away) will have several more. The interesting thing about this beach is that is so cut off, getting there without help from the locals will be really hard. Google maps would come in handy upto a point only, but the signals are weak most of the time.
Ganeshghule beach with its pristine blue water stretches the length of about 1 km and is cut off from both ends with a heavy rock base. At any time this beach will see not more than 10 people. So if staring into the ocean is your thing, then this beach is perfect. At the northern end, one can actually climb a few rocks carefully and enjoy the sunset.
The drive from Ganeshghule to Ganpatiphule has some stunning views. Most of the drive takes one along the coast, so you have views of the sea to constantly be amazed with throughout the journey. Up and down a few cliffs, there are ample photo opportunities for everyone with the bright blue sea in the background.
The best time to visit is November to March. April and May is fine if you don’t mind the heat. The only advantage of visiting this place in the summer is the cheap mangoes. Ratnagiri and its surroundings are mango land! The world’s tastiest fruit no doubt will be much cheaper here. But be prepared to face the sweltering heat. The winter months are most recommended with sunny days and cool nights. Best done over a weekend. With a reasonable priced hotel, approximate around 7000 INR per person should cover all expenses in a group of at least 4.
