What ignites whom defines his or her future course of action and life, but an incident or other can completely change your life is evident from Sayan Sain, who was recently awarded with Dr APJ Abdul Kalam IGNITE Award by the President of India Pranab Mukherjee.
Sayan Sain, a student of Kolkata based Pailan World School was recently awarded for his innovation,Alarm System, a unique device that can sense the person on the other side of the door and alert the person who is opening the door to avoid any untoward incident.
The idea that ignited in the young mind of Sayan was born from an incident at home. One day Sayan was in a hurry to reach school and when he hurriedly opened the door he hit his father unknowingly, who was standing right behind.
Talking about the incident and invention to Youthens, Sayan said “One day I was in my home and was about to come out of my room to go to my school, I didn’t understand that my father is on the otherside of the door and I hit him while opening the door. After the incident I was thinking something is to be done and one day while thinking I came upon this idea to make a alarm system which will include a sensor and a light bulb, the sensor will sense the person who is standing on the other side and anyone trying to open the door is being alerted in advance, when the sensor will sensing the person on the other side will send signal through wire transmission and light the light bulb towards the person who is opening the door”. This way any accident can be averted.
He then shared the concept of Sensory alarm system on the National Innovation Foundation India website on April 2016 and made it to a list of 33 budding innovators who were conferred the prestigious award.
While sharing his experience being with the President describing the nature and specification of his invention Sayan said “It was an opportunity of a lifetime to demonstrate the device in front of the President”.
An aspiring doctor, Sayan wants to do research in medical science and come up with affordable medicines and treatment for critical diseases “I want to become Doctor and to work or developing low cost medicine to help the poor with low cost treatment” as Sayan says with dreams in his eyes.
He also has a message for the youths of his age “one should observe their surrounding and see what type of problem people are facing and make some idea and innovate something that can help in solving the problem”.
Sayan acknowledges the support of the School and his teachers apart from them at home he shares his ideas with his father Ashok Sain, who is an IT Professional.
Sayan has many ideas to innovate whether it be a passenger safety bus with magnetic plates, an adjustable digital staircase for senior citizens or a device that can turn off a bus engine if it detects the person at the wheel has been drinking or is ill, which are waiting to get wings.”.
