Bihar Cheating Scandal
After toppers scandal here is again shock news that more than 80 teachers were expelled for using unfair means during the examination of diploma (open and distance learning) examination which is organized by the state council for education research and training and Bihar school examination board recently face the threat of losing job.
Bihar has around 58,000 untrained teachers and the Center had set a 2015 deadline to train them. However, Bihar had pleaded for relaxation on the grounds that it only had training capacity for barely 6,600 teachers annually. Though appointment of untrained teachers has now been stopped at Center’s directive, it will take another three-four years to clear the training backlog.
Lack of trained teachers seems to be one of the biggest impediments in improving the quality of education in Bihar. SCERT director Sanjeevan Sinha said the National Council for Teachers’ Education (NCTE) had approved just 100 seats per training institution in the distance mode. Sinha also said that teachers will lose their jobs if they cheat in the examination and moreover if they don’t examination seriously they are responsible for their loss and job.
