BR Shetty Expecting $1 Billion Earnings From ‘Mahabharata’
BR Shetty, Founder and Non Executive Chairman of Abu Dhabi based NMC Healthcare and Chairman of UAE Exchange, said on Sunday that he is expecting a revenue if $1 billion from his upcoming produced film based on the epic Sanskrit poem ‘The Mahabharata’. Shetty who is known mainly for his interest in healthcare and finance has for the first time invested $150 million in the film franchise and the film is expected to be India’s most expensive film.
The movie will be all about the 1.8 million words long story, The Mahabharata, an ancient Indian epic where the main story revolves around two branches of a family – the Pandavas and Kauravas – who, in the Kurukshetra War, battle for the throne of Hastinapura.
Both the producer Shetty, and the director V.A. Shrikumar Menon told reporters that the movie will be of six hours in total divided in 2 parts and will be released in 3 languages including Malayalam, English and Hindi. Details about the crew will be disclosed in upcoming 100 days and the filming will start in May 2018. The release is expected to be till 2020 and the next part around 100 days later. The shooting of the film will be done in Abu Dhabi and other locations of Sri Lanka and India. But some spots are yet to be confirmed.
