Broccoli Can Reduce the Risk of Having Coronary Heart Disease
Broccoli is always known for its healthy benefits ,but now the scientist have found the new compound in it which are really helpful in controlling the vegetable’s phenolic compounds and can reduce the risk of having coronary heart disease, type II diabetes, asthma, and several types of cancer. So now you have few more reasons to serve the broccoli to your children.
The research was carried at the University of Illinois in which the scientist found genes that control the accumulation of phenolic compounds in broccoli, an important discovery for breeding broccoli and other cruciferous vegetables such as kale and cabbage with mega-doses of phenolic compounds for extra health benefits.
Juvik’s (Geneticist of the university) latest research, published this month in the journal Molecular Breeding, follows his earlier 2014 research which resulted in a new natural and inexpensive way of producing a broccoli with a longer shelf life and even more health benefits.
Published in the medical journal PLOS ONE, Juvik’s research discusses how by combining two plant compounds he not only increased “the presence of cancer-fighting agents” in the vegetable, but also prevented spoiling.
