Delhi Zoo Shuts Down Due To Bird Flu For 3 Days.
The Delhi Zoo has been shut for 3 days for the visitors in case of bird flu. At least 3 migratory birds have been found with the influence of the H5N1 influenza virus since October 14. While the other Test result for 7 birds is still remaining. These birds include Rosy Pelicans, the Painted Storks and ducks and few more. For precautions both the staff and the other birds are begin to vaccinate to find if they are affected by the disease. As precautions masks are being worn by the staff.
The virus has affected migratory birds. Two water birds died on Friday while six died on
Saturday and each one on Monday and Wednesday. This bird flu in Delhi is first case after Delhi declared itself free from bird flu in September.
Delhi development minister Gopal Rai said: “We had sent samples of the dead birds to Jhalandhar lab which detected symptoms of some virus. For second opinion, we had also sent these samples to a Bhopal-based laboratory run by the Centre which also confirmed the same”.
“Six rapid response teams have been rushed to suspected spots including the Okhla Bird Sanctuary, Yamuna Diversity Park, Wazirabad and Ghazipur Murga Market as the H5 virus is generally carried by wild migratory birds,” said Gopal Rai.
Director of Delhi Zoo, Amitabh Agnihotri says that this virus will not threat to human life until and unless an infected bird is consumed.
This is not the first time Delhi Zoo is in limelight. Earlier in May after the death of 46 spotted deer due to rabies. The deer deaths have been reported since January this year. The Zoo has about 1,400 animals, reptiles and birds belonging to around 140 species.this is one of the largest Zoo in India, it got 22 lakh visitors last year.
