HCL Technologies Hiring 12th Passed; A Cultural Shift
HCL Technologies Ltd, one of the biggest software service companies is now looking for young talents. Changing the recruitment culture from college selections, the company is now hiring students directly from high school. All you need is to score 85% in the board exams (80% for CBSE students).
The company has for now finalized taking 100 students from Madhurai, giving them a 9 months academic course education and 3 month on-job-training in its Coimbatore campus.. The students will be taught application development, software testing, application support, and infrastructure management services.
The students are also getting the advantage of pursuing BSc degree from SSN Engineering College through a weekend programme followed up with working for HCL with the starting package of 1.8 lakh per annum.
“This programme will allow young software engineering aspirants to acquire a certified diploma before being deployed on projects. These students can also pursue BSc courses from the Shiv Nadar University or a university of their choice during weekends,” said Srimathi Shivashankar, vice-president, HCL Technologies.
“If HCL is catching them after the school, it may well begin a cultural shift,” said Pareekh Jain of HfS Research India.
The university programme is said to be a useful for the students who cannot afford IIT studies. Srimanthi belives that though gathering students from high school isn’t a new idea but this could be a good option for rural students and students who don’t have many options with them.
“It is a good short-term initiative for students with fewer opportunities but if it becomes a trend and every IT company starts doing this, then the quality of engineers in the workforce will dip,” the Nasscom official says.
In addition to this, the Ministry Of Human Resource Development has asked various institutions to close the branches and courses which have a decreasing ratio of applicants. A demand to add few more new courses in accordance to the new opportunities and market is been made.
“All Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs), which are participating in joint counseling have been asked to review the position of vacant seats in the last three years and to revise the number of seats in each discipline,” Minister Of State for HRD, Mahendra Nath Pandey said.
