I DON’T WANT TO BE LOOSER IN FRONT OF MYSELF : Arpita Ghosh
Joydeep Das Gupta, spoke exclusively with Arpita Ghosh, Member of Parliament from Trinmool Congress for Youthens. She is one of the youngest Parliamentarians and believes in work with clear conscience. The politician with difference touches almost all the issues related to youth in politics but sum up with some eye opening words, when she says “at the end of the day we all had to face ourselves. I don’t want to be looser in front of myself”.
Q. As for young in India, there are lots of career options, then why do you choose to be in politics?
I personally believe politics in our country decides the policy of the country, which directly affect the people. When i want to work for the country, i need to work following the democratic structure of the country. Therefore I am here. We perceive many things from outside rather dare to go inside and work. I took the challenge and i am here. I also believe that people from all segment of the society to participate in this political structure for the development of the country.
Q. It is presumed that the politicians are more corrupt; this never made any impact in you while making the decision to be in politics?
Everything has a positive and negative side; it does not mean we should stop ourselves, seeing the negative outside. We perceive everything, looking at the outer side of the issue, never try to go in and see for our self and solve. Staying outside, passing comment and giving advice is easy, but coming inside and try to solve, is what matters most. I was also a part of civil society, but i found it is easy to protest outside rather coming inside the system to solve the issue. So i personally made up my mind and i am here for doing what little i can do from my part.
Q. It is said that “Politics comes with maturity” with grey hair, Being young don’t you believe you are not matured enough?
Experience in politics matters most. I agree with it and there is no doubt in it. We young can also learn from senior politicians and being young also can give new ideas and can speak from our point of view for the betterment of the country.
Q. As a member of parliament (politician), you can bring a lot of change in the society, what in particular the issue that you think to change?
The beauty of Indian parliament is its majority. I as a single member of parliament can give my opinion, can register my view, but to take any kind of decision in the interest of the country, we have to come to the majority. Now the party or a group of party those who are in the majority and who are in power in the centre decides the fate of the country. But individually i try to do as much as i can for my constituency. I believe in myself and my little effort for my people at my constituency, where i can do at least something for the people.
Q. Do you think that more young members are needed in the parliament to push for new ideas?
Yes, young people must join politics, to inject fresh ideas, not just youth but people from all strata of society should come and join the process of building the nation. Just don’t look and expect from outside, just come in and participate.
Q. Is the present Narendra Modi government at the centre gives most emphasis on the young people?
Present government in the centre is more keen on going digital, introducing tech savvy equipments and people; this i don’t think is all about involving young people. World is going digital that way it is a must for everyone. This is not the only way out. More youth involvement and youth centric policies need to be introduced.
Q. You advice or message to all those young people of India. Who want to be in the politics?
I am no one to advice anybody. I believe in myself and personal accountability. In order to bring any change we need to bring the change within us first. We are stressing on cleaning india, until and unless we clean us from inside outer cleanliness is nothing.
I’ll rather say don’t be hypocrite, rather do whatever you can do for the people keeping the inner conscience clear. Whatever we do we should do from heart and soul. At the end of the day we all had to face ourselves. I don’t want to be looser in front of myself.
