Literacy day, celebrated on 8th September all over the word, highlights the importance of literacy to individuals, communities and societies. The student community of IIM Raipur welcomed this opportunity to celebrate thisevent in a novel way. A team of student volunteers arrived at P.G. Umathe Govt Girls Higher Secondary School with the motive to spread awareness and carry the message thatliteracy is the key to success.
It was a fun filled Friday at P.G. Umathe Govt Girls Higher Secondary School. The team of‘Prayaas- IIM Raipur Marathon’received an enthusiastic welcome from the students. The IIM Raipurteam spent time with the students,where they organized events involving various activities related to literacy day and importance of education of girl child.
The event started off with acareer counselling session for students of classes 11th and 12th. The students showed immense interest in the proceedings of the hour long event, which was evident from the number of queries thrown at the team. They werecurious to know about the opportunities and future avenuesthey could pursue after 12thand how to proceed with the preparations for the same.
The IIM Raipur team askedthe students to write their career goals on a sheet of paper. The team was surprised with the variety of responses they got, which corresponded to the thought processof the students.Majority of the students aspired to be Doctors, Nurses, and Teachers or appear for the Civil Services Examination. A fun quiz was conducted to test the basic general knowledge of the students. A public speaking exercise wasalso conducted, where students were asked to come forward and give a brief introduction about themselves. Students were encouraged to come forward and speak; this effort was intended to eliminate their stage fright.
The event concluded with a drawing competition, which was based on the theme ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’. The competition attracted many students, who ardently painted their thoughts and views on paper.The drawingsshowcased the creativity and talent of the students of P.G Umathe School.The entire event planned by the student community of IIM Raipur is a part of a series of upcoming activities planned to reinforce the message of educating the girl child. IIM Raipur is soon planning to conduct its marathon ‘Prayaas’ on the theme of “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao”.
