ICC Champions Trophy 2017: India thrashes South Africa enters semi-finals
India and South Africa clashed in a do-or-die encounter in the ICC Champions Trophy 2017. The Proteas have never defeated India in the Champions Trophy and a defeat for AB de Villiers’ side will see them exit the tournament. India, on the other hand, has proved itself. India has sealed a spot in the semi-final. India had restricted South Africa to 191. A combination of disciplined bowling and poor decision-making put India on top as they moved within touching distance of the semi-finals. Having won the toss and elected to field, defending champions India did the job with the ball in a Group B meeting where the losers would be eliminated.
While India were strong and sharp with ball in hand, South Africa’s batting line-up were slow-starting and paid the price for erratic running between the crease – with a spell of eight wickets for just 51 runs decimating their batting card. India’s semi-final will be with Bangladesh and this is again going to be an interesting match. Well, up till now, everyone is celebrating India’s victory.
Quick highlights of the match are:
India rode on Virat Kohli (76*) and Shikhar Dhawan’s (78) 128-run stand to defeat South Africa by eight wickets to seal ICC Champions Trophy 2017 semi-final berth. Earlier, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah picked two wickets each as India dismissed South Africa for 191 in a must-win Group B game . After opting to field, India were left frustrated by the resilience of Quinton De Kock (53) and Hashim Amla (35). However, they suffered a couple of run outs to be reduced from 140/3 to 191 all out in less than 20 overs.
