Japanese Cat Water Cake is the New Online Sensation!!!

Ever heard of a water cake? It’s a clear and jiggly Japanese dessert that looks exactly like a huge drop of water held together by magic! As if that wasn’t impressive enough, now Twitter user mithiruka shared a pic of a clear water cake in the shape of a sleeping cat. The Internet is going absolutely crazy about it, as the photo was posted on Twitter on Sunday, and it’s gone viral in Japan since with over 23k likes and 19k retweets. See it for yourselves below, and you’ll understand why.
The cake is made from water and agar, and while it may not be the exact same recipe as the mizu Shingen mochi offered by Kinseiken, it certainly looks pretty close. We have to say, we’re seriously impressed with these original water cakes, and judging from the response on Twitter, we’re not the only ones who feel this way, as the tweet showing the cat cake has already been retweeted over 18,000 times.
