Indians belong to a pool of water where BARGAINING tool is their wing to swim, agreed or not?

Dealing, Arguing, hammering, trading, quarreling, negotiating and finally agreeing, different hurdles people overcome before achieving the targeted war of money success with the sellers otherwise even the salesperson feels cheated and underrated if not gone through the bargaining process. Though snobbish mall shopping and the online market have cut down a much of bargain market but still mastering the art bargaining is something to achieve.

Bargaining is an art that can help you bring down the price of a product in direct proportion to your skills. Ironically, despite hordes of self-proclaimed master bargainers, very few actually manage to snare a good deal. This could be for various reasons, be it lack of research or poor communication skills. “Whether you are buying potatoes or a Rs 2 Crore house, it is important to talk to a minimum of 4-5 dealers to gauge the price and discounts,” says Anil Agrawal, V-P, retail, in a private or organization, and a good bargainer when it comes to electronic appliances. Without this basic research, you cannot be on firm ground to negotiate your way to a good deal. “It is, however, important to understand the difference between negotiation and bargaining,” says Prerna Kohli

So to crack a deal worth million sense of satisfactions follow these basic rules to ace the game:

  1. Homework is MUST:
Research prowess bargaining tactics. Whether optioning for electronic appliances, houses, commercial products or even a car, detailed knowledge floating about products in the current market scenarios is must. Blind walks are hazardous, “Go with enough preparation of products and market pricing. The more the preparation, the lesser the risk of being taken advantage of,” says Kohli. Narendra Agrawal, a surgeon at a renowned hospital in the NCR, agrees. “Even if you don’t have to buy, you should constantly keep searching, be comparing prices, checking mileage, etc. Cars should not be bought in a hurry,” Agrawal added.
  2. LOCK your Budget:
Predefining your budget is essential as it decides the horizon of your negotiation about the products MRP value. Sometimes saying a no, turning your face for a locked budget boom up the situation in your favor.
  3. It’s all about PERFECT Timing:
Always hop according to the seasons and timing to apply the bargaining coat in a perfect manner. Like festive off or June, ends are best for the purchase of apparel and its related stuff while December ends are better for buying of sprees and cars. Another note to keep in mind is picking your negotiation task at the end of the closing times of shops. No vendor is ready for long-winded negotiation towards the closing and hence bargaining works easily.
  4. Politeness should be your only COMMAND:
Never be loud or rude, be polite and humble With respect comes respect, OK but with respect comes easy grounds for bargains. Plus you cannot afford to spoil your terms with sale person as chances of catching up the same salesperson for different work is high. Most importantly never allow sellers to know about your strong likeness about the product. Even if they realize you are keen on something, don’t give them the advantage of knowing that you’re hiding the need to have it. Be upfront about wanting it, but only at a particular price, thus giving an impression that you are not an impulse buyer and mean business.
  5. Pay ATTENTION on Body-Language:
“Non-verbal cues like gestures and postures communicate your true attitudes and intentions and account for about 55% of the message conveyed,” says Kohli a Delhi-based psychologist. Understand and listen to body talks. Eye contact and smile means sale person is still interested in your deal, never miss it. Any scowling action or negative body language and deal is off and your exit is on.
  6. Find Flaws:
Always be a keen observer and a smart picker of flaws in the product which will affect the product’s functionality yet diminish the ground levels of the seller. Scratch, dent or even an unsuitable location, prep up the issue and increase your bargaining discount levels.
  7. Raise the BARS in lump sum amount:
Once buyer and seller both agreed upon one cut short price strike hard on the further range of the product in one stake. Make him realize about the pay scale in one call for the big amount if offered proper discount rather than installing the MRP costs.
  8. Never be AFRAID to Walk off:
Despite dragging and dismissing many cut shorts offer if you never find a satisfactory deal after bargaining you should always be prepared to walk off smartly. Don’t feel guilty about anything or any involvement with seller or product, sometimes walking off makes the sale person afraid of losing a classic deal which again works in your favor only.So this festive season hunt on with bargaining tactics and crack the best one.
