Look Photos!! Horror cycle clash at Rio Olympics
Team GB’s Mark Cavendish was involved in a horror high speed crash last night that took out three cyclists. The Tour de France rider from the Isle of Man clashed with Sanghoon Park, knocking the South Korean off his bike during the 160-lap race at Rio 2016, but managed to stay on his bike as he took silver in the velodrome. In the crash Italian Elia Viviani came off his bike along with Australian rider Glen O’Shea. He led the overall standings before the final event and managed to return to his bike and secure the gold medal despite the fall. Cavendish, 31, appeared to accept blame for the crash and apologized to Viviani – but was not penalised and still received his silver medal. Following the race, he also aimed a dig at fellow cyclist Sir Bradley Wiggins.
Mark Cavendish finally won an Olympic medal with silver in the omnium after missing out at Beijing and London.
But Cavendish caused a collision that knocked three riders off their bikes in the velodrome in Rio tonight.
Mark Cavendish collided with South Korean rider Sanghoon Park in the omnium knocking him off the bike.
Viviani, centre, and Australian Glenn O’Shea, left, were both temporarily out of the race but got back up.
Park was left clutching his body in agony after the crash and was soon taken off the track by paramedics.
But Park was taken out of the velodrome on a stretcher and was given medical treatment as he was carried away.
Many people on social media voiced their concern for Park as he was given oxygen by medics, with several wishing him a speedy recovery.
The crash looked horrific in real time but both Viviani and O’Shea managed to escape without serious injury.
