Meet Amber Hill a typically girly teenager
Amber Hill the star of sports who consider herself as a typically girly teenager not is all but she is the one of the favorites for skeet shooting in Rio this month she designed a range of cartridges designed to get women into the sport. She does have personalized pink cartridges and the £8,000 gun she calls her ‘baby’ is decorated in eye-catching shades of orange and black. She even reveals an ambition to perhaps become a beauty therapist one day, having completed a course before her focus had to shift exclusively to Rio. She also claims to have been a decent netball player at school, despite being just 5ft 2in. But beyond the occasional giggle and a passion for ‘nice nails’ there is clearly a hard-as-nails competitor with a remarkable gift.
She describes herself as something of a natural; someone blessed not just with an assassin’s eye but ice in her veins when it comes to the serious business of competition. In 2013 she equalled the world record, shooting 74 out of 75 clays. In 2015 she won the European Games in Baku and followed that with victory in the World Cup final — an invitational event for the 12 finest skeet shooters — last October.
Amber Hill considers herself to be a typically ‘girly teenager’ with a penchant for pink.
However, her accuracy with a shotgun has made her one of the favourites for gold at Rio.
She says the sport comes naturally and she does not have to focus on the technical side.
Hill has equalled the world record but will be up against talented veteran Kim Rhode in Rio.
Hill says she was immediately hooked on shooting, which gives her incredible satisfaction.
The 18-year-old trains by going to the gym regularly but also by working on her shooting.
