In the recent Instagram post, Selena shared photos of her getting a kidney transplant from her best friend Francia Raisa. In the photo, she can be seen holding her best friend hands and smiling on the hospital bed. She discussed her health in an interview back in 2015, that she is suffering from a disease called Lupus.
She took some time off last year as she was struggling with the disease as well as anxiety and depression.
She wrote on her Instagram post “I’m very aware some of my fans had noticed I was laying low for part of the summer and questioning why I wasn’t promoting my new music, which I was extremely proud of. So I found out I needed to get a kidney transplant due to my Lupus and was recovering. It was what I needed to do for my overall health. I honestly look forward to sharing with you, soon my journey through these past several months as I have always wanted to do with you. Until then I want to publicly thank my family and an incredible team of doctors for everything they have done for me prior to and post-surgery. And finally, there aren’t words to describe how I can possibly thank my beautiful friend Francia Raisa. She gave me the ultimate gift and sacrifice by donating her kidney to me. I am incredibly blessed. I love you so much, sis. Lupus continues to be very misunderstood but progress is being made. She further said that she will share more about transplant and about her journey to transplant, “she gave me an ultimate gift and I m so blessed and I love you so much, sis”. Her friend Raisa is an actor best known for her role as Adrian Lee on the TV series “The Secret Life of the American Teenager”.
Selena Gomez’s step father thanks Francia for her brave step and said: “He was stunned and touched by the ultimate sacrifice for a friend, I am not only Francia’s manager but also Selena’s father so the magnitude of what Francia has done for our family cannot be put into words”.
Moving on, every one is sharing their prayers and gratitude on the social media, meanwhile many people want to know their experience and the story. There are about 19,000 kidney transplants in the US last year, in which most of the transplant was because of diabetes or chronic damage because of the high blood pressure, only 3% is because of Lupus.
Lupus is an autoimmune disease in which our immune system attacks its own healthy tissues. There are many Symptoms of this disease like chest pain during respiration, joint pain, hair loss, fever with no other cause, sensitive to sunlight, mostly this disease damages the kidney so transplanting a new kidney can be a cure for this.
