Lesson 1: Leave your ego at the door

Ego battles to fight upon will main spring real achievements on the personal and professional level.

As he said, “there’ll always be moments of provocation in any competitive field. The important thing is to take only what helps you move toward your goal and leave the rest.”

Emphasising on debasing ego demands he adds, “Ego stops you from doing the right things, and drives you to do the wrong things.”

Lesson 2: Don’t dwell

Bad day, bad situation, bad circumstance a part and parcel of every living being. Never let it ruin your forth coming virtues.

He added,

“I made it a habit over the years to avoid reliving my failures, and just focussed on and worked towards my goals.

Dwelling never figured in that equation.”

Lesson 3: Listen to yourself

Like oxygen come advice, free of cost. People around you will guide you in every instance coming across, IGNORE.

The key is to hear everyone out but listen to yourself. At the end, the decision should be yours.

Lesson 4: Look for strong partnerships

Survival comes out of the partnership. Be in any form bond matters, it upholds you, broadens you, makes you whole once you know which one suits you the best.

As he put it,”In cricket, many make the mistake of only considering batting partnerships as important. But I believe that bowling partnerships have equal merit. There’s nothing more fascinating to watch than two human beings embarking on a common goal and working together to take their place as part of a bigger dream … a team, a nation.”

So, find the partnerships that work for you, and nurture them.

Lesson 5: Don’t be afraid to ask for help

The 5th one has the utmost emphasis on the human tendency of offering and accepting the magic of HELP. Reach out to your people in need, they love you, they will help you.

Reliving his journey he expressed, “Many careers don’t involve physical injury. Mine, being a sporting career, had plenty of them. But whether the injury is physical, mental or emotional in one’s career, it is important to remember that we are not out there alone.”
