Swiss style trains to hit Indian rail tracks soon.

India is all set with two signed MoUs of collaborating with Switzerland for developing trains which tilt on corner and bends, just like bikes and scooters on winding roads.

Thursday, a memorandum of understanding was signed between both the countries regarding the same.

Tilting trains are functioning into 11 countries in present – Finland, Italy, Portugal, the UK, Switzerland, China, Romania, Slovenia, Russia, The Czech Republic and German.

According to officials, train rounds the curve at the speed when approaching towards any bends.

“While it makes seated passengers feel squashed by the armrest, standing passengers tend to lose their balance. The design of the tilting trains counteracts this,” official continued.

If the curve is observed in the left direction, the train will tend to turn in the left and vice versa, he added.

In the presence of our Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, the railway ministry signed two MoUs with the Federal Department of the Environment, Transport, and Communication of the Swiss Confederation for technical operation in the rail sector. The first MoU was signed as a follow up on a bilateral corporation in rail division as discussed between Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu and the Swiss Ambassador.

The MoU aims at cooperation in the areas of traction rolling stock, electric multiple units and train sets, traction propulsion equipment, freight and passenger cars, tilting trains, railway electrification equipment, tunneling technology among other things.

The second agreement was a bridge of mutual consideration between Konkan Railway Corporation (KRCL) and Swiss Federal Institute of Technology. This agreement will help the former in establishing the George Fernandes Institute of Tunnel Technology (GFITT) at Goa especially for assimilation and dissemination of knowledge in the field of tunneling, the officials said.
