Twitter erupts after South Africa chase down 371 against Australia, once again
Yes they have done it again and it is simply unbelievable. It was a run-feast in Durban as Australia and South Africa met for the third One-Day International (ODI) on Wednesday. Having lost the first two games of the five-match ODI series, the visitors needed to win the third game at any cost to keep the series alive, but luck was on the other side.
Australia set a score of 371 from 50 over’s and it was a good score and team looked to win the match, until South Africa started batting.
In 2006, South Africa had scripted the highest successful ODI run chase against the same team, by hunting down a mammoth 435 set by Australia in Johannesburg. This match was a nostalgic ride for many fans, as it rekindled the memories of that historic chase.
In the 31st over, with Miller on 26 and South Africa needing to score at more than eight runs an over, he tweaked a groin muscle running between the wickets. At the start of the next over, South Africa lost their fifth wicket and their last specialist batsmen when JP Duminy holed out. They were 217 for 5 and victory was 155 runs away. But Miller dug deep and along with another local lad, Andile Phehlukwayo, with whom he put on 107 off 70 balls for the seventh-wicket, took South Africa home
It was only the third time in 42 one-day internationals that a team had made 300 or more at Kingsmead, a ground which seldom yields big totals.
And as the match ended the twitter reaction started erupting, here are some of them from social media.
