Udta Punjab has a slow takeoff at Box-office
After having a long battle with the CBFC and all the controversies around the film, Udta Punjab has taken a bit average start at the box-office.
Though the film has left a huge impression on the minds of moviegoers but it had a lukewarm response on Friday.
The film is based on drug menace in Punjab and is definitely amongst the best films to come out this year. The film, starring Shahid Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Diljit Dosanjh, got a wide release in around 2,000 screens.
Distributor Rajesh Thadani told “The opening is just average and I think the film will just collect about Rs.8 to 9 crores on its first day, which is below our expectation. The opening has certainly not been encouraging considering the controversy.”
Though the film is relatively doing well at multiplexes, single screens have not generated that good numbers.
Well, such films do not work on single screens but that doesn’t mean the film is not good at content. The film showcases some terrific performances from its lead actors. Shahid and Alia bhatt were brilliant in the film and so were Kareena and Diljit. Shahid and Alia seems pushing their bars with such films. The performances are worth award winning.
The film has been getting good reviews from the critics and multiplexes audiences also love the film. The film is expected to pick up over the weekend, majorly in multiplexes.
The film is co-produced by Phanton Films and Balaji Motion Pictures and is directed by Abhishek Chaubey.
