‘Unbreakable’ 33 World Records Made By Indian Cricketers
Indian cricketers, known as ‘Men in Blue’ are getting appreciations from every person in the world for their talents and active game play. The sportsmanship of Indian cricketers can be clearly seen in past few matches of ODI. On 16th June, India won match against Bangladesh by 9 wickets in which India broke the target given by Bangladesh of 264 runs. Just like this, the victory of Indian cricketers can be seen in various world record made by them.
- Starting with Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s trademark, i.e., his act of finishing the matches with a six, he did this 9 times in ODI (One Day International) cricket matches.
- Mahendra Singh Dhoni from 2007-2016 has topped the list of ‘Most Matches as Captain’ with 331 matches in total. Earlier, the record was capped by Australia’s Ricky Ponting with 324 matches.
- MS Dhoni in 2016 Jan 29, broke Kumar Sangakkara’s world record of 139 stumping in international cricket. Dhoni has gone to 155 since then.
- On March 1, 2016 M S Dhoni became the 1st player to reach 200 Intentional Sixes as Team Captain. It took him 315 innings in all formats to reach this milestone.
- On January 15, 2107, India became the first team to post 3 totals of 350 or more in ODI matches, highest was 362 for one vs. Australia at Jaipur in October 16, 2013. On October 30, 2013, India posted a chase of 351 for four vs. Australia.
- Karun Nair, on 19th December, 2016 registered his first triple-century in his 3rd innings in test cricket, the least innings by any batsman. Earlier Less Hutton scored his triple hundred in his 9th innings in 1938.
- Ranvindra Jadega is the first cricketer in the history of cricket to compile a 50 or more, collect 10 wickets and take 4 or more catches in a test match. He scored 50 in his 1st innings, registered 10/154, a catch in England’s opening innings and 3 catches in their second innings.
- Virendra Sehwag, the only player who has scored triple century in tests and double hundred in ODI against West Indies in Indore in 2011. He made 309 runs in Multan against Pakistan in 2004 and 319 against SA in 2008.
- Virendra sehwag also holds the record of being the only cricketer who made more than 7500 runs in ODI and test matches as an opening batsman. He scored 8207 runs at the average 50.04 in red-ball cricket and 7518 runs at 36.50 in 50-overs format as an opener.
- Ravichandran Ashwin in 2017 established a record of being the quickest 25-wickets in 47 tests, leaving Richard Hadlee behind and his record of 62 matches.
- Ravichandran Ashwin also has the record of becoming the fastest bowler to take 250 wickets in test cricket on 12 February 2017. He broke the record set by Australian fast bowling legend Dennis Lillee. Lillee had done it in his 48th match; whole Ashwin did it in his 45th test.
- Ashwin in 2016 also completed 200 wickets with the least balls bowled in test matches. He reached this level in 10291 deliveries which he got in 37 overs less than Australian Stuart MacGill who took 10511 balls to arrive at that milestone.
- Virat Kohli on February 10, 2017 became the 1st batsman in test matches to score double hundred in 4 successive series. He reached this when he scores 204 against Bangladesh in Hyderabad. First against West Indies, then New Zealand and third against England.
- Virat in 2016 on December 11 became the only player to average of over 50 in all three formats of international cricket.
- Virat Kohli hit his 4th century of the series in the fourth and final test against Australia on January 8, 2015 and celebrated his captaincy. He became the 1st cricketer to score 3 hundreds in his first three innings when he knocked 140 at the SCG and twin tons at Adelaide in the first test.
- Virat kohli was into 200-run partnership for the eight time on January 20, 2016, this was most as compared to any cricketer. He beat down both Sri Lankan Upul Tharanga and Australia’s Ricky Ponting who had it for seven times.
- Irfan pathan is the first and only bowler to create a hattrick in the first over of the test match. In 2006, he took wickets of Salman Butt, Younis Khan and Mohammad Yousuf on the 4th, 5th and the 6th ball respectively.
- KL Rahul, on June 11, 2016 became the first cricketer to score a hundred in his maiden innings as an opening batsman in tests and One Day Internationals. His first 3 figures in test were in 2015 in Sydney.
- Sachin Tendulkar is the only batsman in cricket who has batted in more than 300 innings. He batted in 329 innings in 200 test matches followed by Ricky Ponting who has bat 287 times later followed by Rahul Dravid who has faced 286 bowlers.
- Sachin tendulkar is also the only cricketer to have a rare mixture of triples with 15000 runs (18426), 100 wickets (154) and 100 catches (140) in ODI. He is followed by Sourav Ganguly, South African Jacques Kallis and Sri Lanka’s Sanath Jayasuriya with hattrick of 10000 runs, 100 wicket and 100 catches.
- Sachin is the first and only cricketer to score 100 internal hundreds. He retired with 51 tests and 49 ODIs.
- Sachin tendulkar is the only player in test cricket history to play 200 games.
- On august 14, 2015, Ajinkya Rahane became the first non keeper cricketer to take eight catches in test match.
- Shikhar Dhawan has the record of getting the fastest Test hundred on debut. He reached three figures in just 85 balls against Australia in March 2013. The earlier record of the same was with West Indies’ Dwayne Smith who reached to his century in 93 balls.
- Vijay Hazare is the only batsman to score hundred on consecutive days in test cricket against Australia in 1948 making 108 on day 3 and 102 on day 4.
- Rahul dravid is the only player to reach more than 30,000 delivered in whites (total 31258) he got the name of ‘Wall’ for playing long, long innings. He is followed by master blaster Sachin Tendulkar, who faced a total of 29,437 balls during his illustrious career of 200 Tests.
- Dravid became the first man to take 200 catches in 2010. Later Mahela Jayawardene of Sri Lanka and South African Jacques Kallis joined him at the same but he still leads at 210 catches.
- Rahul dravid was the first batsman to score 100 runs in all 10 test playing nations. Younis Khan became the second.
- In ODIs only Mohinder Amarnath was the cricketer to be given out at both handling at ball and obstructing the field.
- Bapu Nadkarni, the first bowler to deliver consequently 21 maidens in test innings, the most by anyone. He bowled 131 deliveries without a single run.
- Narendra Hirwani of India has the longest unbroken spell in test cricket, he delivered 59 overs or 354 balls without a break in the 4th and final innings.
- Mohammad Azharuddin scored 3 centuries in his initial 3 test matches, with 110 in first, 105 in second and 122 in third in his debut series against England in 1984-85.
- Yuzvendra Chahal on Feb. 1, 2017, record six wickets for 25 runs to win against England in final T20 International. He also became the second bowler after Sri Lankan Ajantha Mendis to have 6 wickets in pocket in T20 Internationals.
