Vijender Singh To Face Kerry Hope Today
Olympic hero Vijender Singh is all set to face Australia’s Kerry Hope for boxing’s super middleweight world title on Friday and interestingly the local favorite is yet to taste a defeat.
Fighting his first bout at home since turning professional last year, Vijender is confident of continuing his reign as the ‘knockout king’. He is unbeaten in his six bouts since turning professional last year.
“It’s been a long time since I fought in front of the home crowd. Delhi’s weather is hot and there will be a lot of boxing tomorrow. I am excited,” Vijender said after the weigh-in and face-off with Hope on Friday.
“It’s the Asia-Pacific title — we are both fighting, so whoever wins will climb to 15th in the world. The real show starts now and it will be one more step towards the world title,” Vijender said on Friday, during the customary weigh-in ahead of the fight.
There will be six other fights, with boxers from the Indian Boxing Council’s stable and two Thai invites, in the lead-up to the Vijender-Hope bout. There will be a women’s exhibition bout too which will feature boxers from the Mary Kom foundation – Boichong and Nengneihat.
