Candidates Above 25 Years Can Appear For NEET, 2017: Supreme Court
Candidates above 25 years can now appear for The National-Eligibility-cum-Entrance-Test (NEET). Supreme Court took the decision on Friday to allow the participants above 25 years to appear for NEET examination. As per the new criteria for NEET exam, the candidates can appear only three times for the NEET exam and the age limit for the examination has been changed.
The Supreme Court stated that all the eligible candidates fill their form through online portal of CBSE till 5th April. The decision was taken at a UGC (University Grants Commission) meeting held in Delhi. The Oversight Committee on the Medical Council of India, had recently recommended removal of age cap sighting “shortage of doctors in the country” as the reason.
“ Judges gave justice in the student’s favor and directed CBSE to re-open the application window. Petitioners as well as non-petitioners, who are more than 25 years old will be able to apply for NEET 2017. This is a big win for us and we are happy for the students,” said Dr. Anand Rai, one of the activists spearheading the petition in the Supreme Court.
Earlier, the age limit for appearing the NEET examination was between 17 and 25 years and the age limit for OBC and scheduled castes were between 17 and 30 years. Apart from that the maximum age for open category students was 25 and 30 years for reserved category.
The candidates belongs to ST, SC can participate for the examination for only three times. The NEET exam will be held on May 7,2017 and conducted in 10 languages which are Hindi, English, Assamese, Bengali, Gujrati, Marathi, Tamil, Telegu, Oriya and Kannada. The court has made no changes in this rule at this time.
