Minimum Income Schemes for Those Losing Jobs Due to Robotics: ASSOCHAM
With the IT and other industries are facing formidable challenges under the protectionism in the US and AI (Artificial Intelligence. Seeing such problems an ASSOCHAM-PwC study has made out that number of industries related to loss of jobs arising. For that they made out a strong case for government –industry schemes which ensure a minimum income to displaced, along with basic facility for the families in stress.
“In technology advancement, certain sectors are expected to experience shrinkage of employment demand as robotic system. In future this demands can be expected in IT, manufacturing, agriculture, and forestry etc sectors.” the study noted.
Quoting Oxford University researchers Carl Frety and Michael Osborne, based on 702 occupational groupings, workers in mathematical technicians, insurance underwriters, watch repairs, cargo agents, tax repairs etc have a high probability of being replaced by robotics\automation.
In the continuous of unemployment t and underemployment govt. schemes to provide at basic level of income and basic needs are necessary to keep them out impoverishment.
The traditional academic criteria are not well equipped to carry to technological advancements, The ASSOCHAM-PwC paper said. “The education criteria are not up to the mark or outdated now in an economic environment that is heavy on automation and deskilling of jobs and where skills gain and lose value within few years,” according to report.
