SAUFEST-2017 : Of the youths, for the youths and by the youths!

Indore is all set to witness the talent of youngsitan across the globe. The long-awaited five day South Asian Universities Festival is set to begin at Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalay, Takshila Campus from February 28.
More than 300 talented youngsters will participate in the event in different fields including dance, singing, literary and more. The list of participating countries include India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Mauritius, Bhutan,Sri Lanka and Afganistan. Out of total participants 121 international candidates ( 78 Male and 43 Female) candidates have been selected to represent their respective countries.
The event will be inaugurated by actor, dancer of member of Parliament Hema Malini along with Dheerendra Pal Singh, director of NAAC , DS Chauhan, president of Indian Universities Association and Narendra Kumar Dhakad, vice chancellor of DAVV. The first day will mark cultural procession, flag hoisting ceremony, light vocal and meeting of the participating teams. Another major attraction will be Kathak performance by Hema who will showcase her art along with over 60 troupe members. “Hema is very excited about the programme. She is one of the most genuine artists and has cooperated with us really well to appreciate and encourage the young talent,” says event coordinator LK Tripathi.
To ensure safety and success of the programme, special arrangement have been made in collaboration with Indore Police. “ The safety and comfort of candidates is very important. We have analysed our past events and experiences and worked accordingly to make this programme a success,” adds Tripathi.
The second day will be dedicated to artistic programs like clay modelling, classical dance, folk orchestra and cultural evening where renowned ghazal singers Mohammad Husain and Ustad Ahemed Husain from Jaipur will present their beautiful renditions.
The third day will mark poster making, folk group dance, open sessions and cultural evening to be hosted by Indore’s very own classical dancer Ragini Makkhar .
Following will be Traditional Culture walk, mime and skit and presentation of short films. The fourth day will have two major highlights consisting camp fire for the candidates and performance by Prajwal Benjamin Joseph and band. “The event have been planned in such way that candidates get enough time to get to know each other and express themselves,” informs event coordinator Chandan Singh.
Interestingly, not single participant from national team belongs to Indore. “ There have been lot of students from Indore who represented India in Saufest in past. We have missed the chance this time,” shares Tripathi.
The last day of fest will have Heritage and culture quiz and will conclude with valedictory ceremony in presence of special guests and actor Mukesh Khanna.
