Survey: Bengaluru Among The Cheapest Cities In The World
Technology capital Bengaluru has been declared the third cheapest city in the world in a report conducted by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), The Economic Group. Apart from Bengaluru, three other cities of India are included among the top ten world’s cheapest places.
According to (EIU) Worldwide cost of living 2017 reports, Chennai ranks sixth, Mumbai on seventh and New Delhi, on tenth position among the cheapest cities in the world. While Almaty, Kazakhstan is on the top of the list and ranks the first cheapest place.
Singapore kept its title as the World’s most expensive city for the fourth consecutive year, while Hong Kong is on second and Zurich, Switzerland on third position with index scores of 120, 114 and 113 respectively. The EIU’s worldwide cost of living 2017 report said, Asia is home to some of the world’s most expensive cities and also to many of the world’s cheapest cities.
“Although the Indian subcontinent remains structurally cheap, instability is becoming an increasingly prominent factor in lowering the relative cost of living of a location,” EIU said, adding that “this means that there is a considerable element of the risk in some of the world’s cheapest cities”.
Other in the 10 most expensive places, including Tokyo on (4th) , Osaka on (5th), Seoul on ( 6th), Geneva on (7th), Paris on (8th), New York on (9th) and Copenhagen on (10th) position. “India is tipped for rapid expansion as Chinese growth declines, but much of this is driven by its demographic profile, and in per capital terms, wage and spending growth will come from a low base,” the report said.
