TREKKING INDIA’S WILDEST ROADS
2. ROOPKUND TREK, UTTARAKHAND
The beauty which lies in the water is always out of our imagination. Colours which don’t fade in the water and makes best scene inside. But what if that is not inside and your imagination is just a dream. What if you find skeletons and only skeletons inside the water? Here when the glacial ice melts at 5000 meters above sea level then human skeletons comes out. Yes you are reading and it is not that I am making this story but it is true. This is one of the creepiest places and most exciting trekking in India. Roopkund Lake or the Lake of skeleton as known to many is a small glacier lake perched high in the Trishul Massif. Sheer height of the lake and the challenging trail to the heights of Roopkund lake seduce many trekkers. It is also the only trail crossing through which one can reach the Homkund via Ronti’s Saddle. To reach the base camp (for the Roopkund trek) is Loharjung one has to hire a Taxi from Haridwar. And once the trek from Loharjung begins it take 6-7 days to reach Roopkund and back (depending upon the trekker fitness level). This challenging trek requires one to be in decent shape, given that is situated at a high altitude (4,800 mts).
Best time to visit: May-October
