Mysterious Sinkhole in Queensland Backyard
It’s not everyday that a 10 m wide sinkhole filled with churning brown water appears in your back garden. But that is exactly what happened to Ray and Lynn McKay, who live near Brisbane, Australia.
The large circular pit appeared behind their house and, as the pit swirls terrifyingly, large chunks of soil can be seen slipping into the muddy water. Council engineers on site said initial investigations showed that a 100-year-old, 60m deep mine shaft had caused the hole.
The hole is getting bigger by the hour and the McKays have been advised to evacuate their home…
“It will get worse for the next couple of hours. It’s an exploratory shaft that goes down about 100 metres and there’s no need to panic about a neighbourhood falling in, and we will take all the steps to get Lyn and Ray back in their house,” Mr Pisasale Mayor told.
