Piaggio India to launch 5 new products for the Indian market
Piaggio India, which makes Vespa and Aprilia brand of premium scooters and Moto Guzi brand of super premium motorcycles, has lined up as many as five new products for the Indian market, including both premium scooters and super premium motorcycles.
This will commence within the third quarter of this year.
Stefano Pelle, MD and CEO, Piaggio India, said, “We launched the Vespa 150 cc (VXL and SXL) last September and now, three months down the line, we will start making the Aprilia SR150 at our Baramati factory. It will be launched in August. Currently, only the Vespa is made in India.”
The 150cc SR will have an engine which will be peppier and faster, which is slightly different from the Vespa 150 cc.
“This scooter will be completely different from those available in the market. It’s actually a crossover between a scooter and bike and we expect it to open up a new segment” said Pelle.
The company is also planning to launch two completely imported products in India — the 946 Armani and the GTS300.
Like the SR150, both these scooters will create a new segment in the market. Currently there are no 300 cc scooters on Indian roads.
Piaggio is also lining up two super premium bikes – the Moto Guzi V9 Roamer and Bobber.
