Sixth Batch of IPM (2016-21) Begins at IIM Indore

The sixth batch of Integrated Programme in Management (IPM) 2016-21 began on August 2, 2016 at IIM Indore with the registration of 121 students for the new batch. The two day Induction Programme initiated on Tuesday in the presence of IPM Batch 2016-21 along with their parents. The purpose of the Induction Programme is to encourage the young minds and brief them about the coming five years they would be spending at the Institute.

IPM, the first of its kind in India launched by IIM Indore, is a unique and creative programme to meet the aspirations of young students to become management professionals, change agents and societal leaders. IPM is aimed at students who have passed out of class XII/Higher Secondary or equivalent from various schools in India. The first IPM Batch (2016-11) graduated this year at the convocation held in March with 104 students. The recruiters from top-notch companies like Credit Suisse, Deloitte, JP Morgan, HDFC, ICICI Bank, IndusInd Bank, IBM, ICRA, Nomura, Tata Sky, etc. also appreciated the first batch, hiring them at an average package of 11.96 LPA and highest package of 30 LPA.

The day began with registration of the students followed by a session on Disability Sensitization by Mohammad AsifIqbal, Principal Consultant (Manager), PwC. Mr. Iqbal lost his eyesight at a tender age of 16, but with his constant keenness to learn and with his positive zeal, he won all the obstacles. Sharing his experience as a child he said, ‘When I started to lose my eyesight, I started considering that I was incapable of everything and was not meant to learn. Teachers started believing that it is no use investing time in me, as I would fail. But then I decided to overcome the negativity, overcome the fear and prove myself that I can also live a normal life.’ Congratulating the new batch of IPM, Mr. Iqbal advised the students to always remain positive, seek for knowledge and focus on the passion which keeps them happy.

This was followed by the formal inauguration, which commenced with the lamp lighting ceremony by Professor Rishikesha T. Krishnan, Director, IIM Indore.Professor Krishnan in his address mentioned that IPM is a course which brings in the utmost young and dynamic students, bringing in diversity to the campus. ‘Studying at IIM Indore, it is always useful to keep one eye on what’s happening around the globe. This is the time of opportunities, but this is also a time of concerns. India is poised for economic growth, but the international environment is quite challenging now. Challenge is to realize the potential of the youth of our country. And this is what IPM aims at’, Professor Krishnan said. He mentioned that the credit system for this year’s IPM course has been molded and created in a way which provides time and space to assimilate diverse inputs in the programme.

Professor RanjeetNambudiri, Chair, IPM and Professor KousikGuhathakurta briefed the students about the IPM course curriculum and structure. A video of testimonials by the top performers of the first IPM batch (2011-16) which graduated this year was also shown to motivate the young students. The new batch also got an opportunity to know their faculty via a Faculty Introduction Presentation.

The event was followed by a counseling session by Ms. PrachiAgarwal.

The day one of the induction programme concluded with a mesmerizing dance performance by Ms. Swati Khanwalkar& Mr. RakshitYadav and group members.

The second day of Induction Programme would witness Inaugural Address by Dr. JaiminiBhagwati, Ambassador, Ministry of External Affairs on the topic ‘Role of Foreign Policy in Extending International Footprint of Indian Business. Distribution of Certificates of ‘Academic Excellence’ to the IPM 2013 Batch would also be held, in which the top performers of the batch will be felicitated.Briefing on Safety & Security, Prevention of Ragging, Gender Sensitivity, Library & Plagiarism and IT Facilities of the Institute would also be given.
