Tom Cruise, born as Thomas Cruise Mapother IV on July 3, 1962 is one of the most handsome and talented actors of the Hollywood industry. At the age of 14, he planned of becoming a priest but realized his true acting skills by the age of 16 when he participated in his school’s production. Cruise has made his fans crazy by many of his super hit classic movies like Top Gun, Edge of Tomorrow, Jerry Maguire, Risky Business and majorly his Mission Impossible Series.
But only few know that apart from being an actor, he has always been involved in his beliefs regarding Scientology. Scientology is developed by L. Ron Hubbard and is defined as a religion that offers a precise path leading to a complete and certain understanding of one’s true spiritual nature and one’s relationship to self, family, groups, Mankind, all life forms, the material universe, the spiritual universe and the Supreme Being.
Tom Cruise came in association with Scientology in 1990 through his wife Mimi Rogers. He also credits the church for curing him form dyslexia. But as Tom’s spiritual interest grabbed space in his life, his marriage with Mimi ended in 1990.
Scientology has brought up Cruise in highlights so many times, but never in a good impact.
He even said in favor of his belief that, “I’ve been a Scientologist for over 30 years…without it; I wouldn’t be where I am. So, it’s a beautiful religion. I’m incredibly proud.”
Later, a video got viral on YouTube in which Cruise showed his beliefs for scientology and introduced church’s technology with millions of people. Cruise was rambling about his beliefs in the Church. In addition to his weird behaviors, he used an example of hypothetical car accident to show the difference between a scientologist and a normal person. He said “When you’re a Scientologist, and you drive by an accident, you know you have to do something about it, because you know you’re the only one who can really help… We are the way to happiness. We can bring peace and unite cultures.”
This was a recorded video but the Church of Scientology claimed that the video had been “pirated and edited”. YouTube removed the video but later it was found to be genuine and thus was reinstated on the site.
In 2004, cruise got caught up in controversies when he said, “I think psychiatry should be outlawed.” This got much bigger when in 2005 he criticized actress Brooke Shields for using antidepressants (drugs used for the treatment of major depressive disorder) for her recovery from postpartum depression after the birth of her 1st daughter. In response, Shields said, “Cruise should stick to saving the world from aliens and let women who are experiencing postpartum depression decide what treatment options are best for them.” His statements were taken as a dishonor of mental illness. In 2016, Cruise apologized for his comments.
Scientology had always made an influence on Cruise’s relationships.
This statement got confirmed when in 2013 Tom stated that his ex-wife Katie Holmes divorced him in order to protect their daughter Suri form scientology. It also got highlighted when Cruise’s former auditor Marty Rathbun claimed that Nicole Kidman’s phone was wiretapped by Cruise’s suggestion.
According to The Underground Bunker, Cruise’s niece Lesavoy ‘committed a shocking sin’ of kissing at boy at age of 14. Tom found her act ‘unbecoming of a Scientologist and out-PR (creating a bad image for oneself or Scientology),’ and so she was abandoned from her family and was sent to live with another family to work on her ‘lower ethics conditions’. It took two years for her to be ‘fit’ to return to the family.
