Prateek Sharma, a Jaipur based film maker has filed a Copyright Infringement Case against the makers of Toilet: Ek Prem Katha– Plan C Studios, an alliance between Anil Ambani’s Reliance Entertainment & Neeraj Pandey, Shital Bhatia’s Friday Filmworks for taking a punch line from his film Gutrun Gutar Gun.

The case was filed in a Jaipur metropolitan court on July 7. Sharma told IANS that because of a similar line between Toilet: Ek Prem Katha that is yet to be released and his Gutrun Gutar Gun, that he made in 2015, the distributors are telling him that his film is similar to Toliet: Ek Prem Katha.

“Much before Toilet Ek Prem Katha was announced, I made the film Gutrun Gutargun, on the subject of cleanliness drive in 2015. It was first screened on November 4, 2015, at a private auditorium in Jaipur. The Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore also attended the screening of my film.”

“My film was given a `U’ certificate by the CBFC in August 2015 and it was screened in Rajasthan and Bihar with a trial run. The film was also granted tax-free status in Bihar and Uttrakhand.”

“We also sent our film to festivals like Delhi International Film Festival, Indian Film Festival Melbourne, Australia and Rajasthan International Film festival,” he said.

But after all these struggles, when his team actually planned for releasing their movie on 28th July this year, “distributors have backed out saying our film is similar to Toilet: Ek Prem Katha. They said even if they put it up, they would remove it from screens if asked to. This is unfair.” But he believes in law and hopes that he and his team will get justice.
