In the United States, the month of July is celebrated as National Ice Cream Month while the third Sunday of July month is celebrated as The National Ice Cream Day. On this day, many of the famous ice cream parlors in US allow free ice-creams to its customers. All those who want to seize the day, get your cup and cones filled with favorite flavor of ice cream on this National Ice Cream Day.

This day was originated by Joint Resolution 298 sponsored by Walter Dee Huddleston of Kentucky on May 17, 1984. The joint resolution stated month of July 1984 as ‘National Ice Cream Month’ and July 15, 1984, as ‘National Ice Cream Day’. It was even signed into public law by President Ronald Reagan on July 9, 1984 with President Proclamation 5219.

Earlier, thousands of years ago, people in the Persian Empire used to put snow in a bowl and enjoy it with grape juice concentrate over it. It was done when weather was hot and snow used to be saved in cool underground chambers called ‘Yakhchal’. The snow was also gathered from the remaining of snowfall at the stop of mountains by summer capital. Ice cream was first introduces in US by Quaker Colonists who bought their own recipes with them.
