Ruthlessly when an innocent’s life came to end, at Ryan International School Delhi, Central Board of Secondary education (CBSE) said, the encumbrance for safety and security of children in school campus shall undividedly depend upon the school authorities.

On September 8th, a boy named Pradyuman was found dead in the washroom, completely blood wrapped with his throat slit at Ryan International School, New Delhi.

Breaking the silence after days of event occurrence, CBSE announced that the onus of safety of students on campus lies solely with school authorities.

On 13th of September, a circular was passed by on ‘Safety of Children’, giving two months to every school affiliated a time period for completion of the psychometric evaluation of all staff – Teachers, Nonteacher, Conductors, bus drivers and Sweepers also.

“Owing to increasing incidents involving safety and well-being of school children, the onus for safety and security of children on campus shall solely lie upon the school authorities,” says the circular, adding: “It is the fundamental right of a child to engage and study in an environment where he/she feels safe and is free from any form of physical or emotional abuse or harassment.”

The official word may slow down the outrageous waves of response after Pradyuman murder case as a relief to many parents but to incorporate with the psychometric test will be very tough for many schools.

“Schools must get psychometric evaluation done for all the staff employed. Such verification and evaluation for non-teaching staff — such as bus drivers, conductors, peons and other support staff — may be done very carefully and in a detailed manner,” the CBSE said

With the detailing of order, it is strictly directed to adhere to all the guidelines issued by MHRD and Board from time to time. Any violation/lapses with regard to safety and well being of children in school campus would invite appropriate action including the disaffiliation of the school as per the provisions under Affiliation Bye-Laws of the Board, the circular read.
