Be in the lap of nature at Chail
Chill at this small hill station of Himachal Pradesh to beat the summer heat and revel in the pristine nature, breathtaking views and landscapes
Its April and temperatures is already soaring. Heat is giving us hint to pack the bags and head towards hill stations. So what to wait for? Packed my bags and here I am on my toes for the next expedition. There’s a small hill station Chail in Himachal Pradesh. I have heard this place from my friend’s mouth who have accidentally explored this hill station and was amazed to see the greenery.
From Delhi this hill station is not very far but whenever you want to go please opt for car as the road is just breathtaking. It took nine hours to reach me there. But incase road trip is not very comfortable for you then you can take bus or train. But train goes only till Kalka and from there you have to hire cab.
After reaching to my most awaited destination I thought of relaxing myself basically stretching my body.
Spread over three hills – Pandhawa, Rajgarh and Siddh Tibba – tiny Chail boasts of an arrogance born out of a snub. It was built by Maharaja Bhupinder Singh of Patiala after the British banned him from Shimla. This quiet hill station is all about picnics, leisurely walks and fun in the powdery snow. Chail Palace is where Maharaja Bhupinder Singh spent six months in a year with his retinue. It’s now a heritage hotel run by the Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (HPTDC).
It is the chief attraction of Chail. It was built by Maharaja Patiala. It’s a well-maintained palace surrounded by beautiful garden. Although the Palace has been converted into a hotel but it remains open for tourists.
There are very less attractions to see here but one can relax himself or herself from the city’s busy life. You can explore yourself in the lap of the nature.
Kali Ka Tibba
In the evening I headed towards Kali Ka Dhaba. Locate at the top of a mountain, it’s a temple dedicated to Goddess Kali. One can enjoy the breathtaking view of the hills on reaching the top. Its treat for your eyes to see such beautiful scenes and do go in the morning to see the sunrise. When sun is coming out and the whole clouds turn orange red.
Chail Sanctuary
It is a perfect place for nature lovers. It spans over 110sq. km area among the hills and is a home to various kinds of animals like black napped hare, Ghoral, ‘kakkar’, ‘sambhar’, ‘red jungle fowl’ and ‘khalij’ and ‘cheer’ pheasants. The sanctuary was notified on 21 March 1976 near the town in district Shimla and covers an area of about 10,854.36 hectares. Machan like sighting posts have been built at Khuruin.
Cricket Ground
Surrounded by thick forests of deodar, a well maintained Chail Cricket ground is the highest cricket ground in the world. It was built in 1893. This ground located at an altitude of 2,444 m. It is used as the school playground by Chail Military School. During school vacations it is also used as polo ground. There is a well maintained Basket Ball court and the same cricket ground is used for playing football as the ground also has goal posts. In one corner of the ground there is a historic tree on which the Military School has constructed a beautiful tree house.
