ufo-house2The term “dream home” is used so frequently, it has almost become a cliché. But when the dreamers were Hollywood icon Bob Hope and his wife, Dolores, in collaboration with revered Modernist architect John Lautner, the home they created is something simply ethereal. A true landmark sitting high atop the exclusive Southridge community, overlooking the Coachella Valley with panoramic views northward to Banning Pass and Mount San Jacinto to the west, the extraordinary property was completed in 1980. It was the Hopes’ third home in Palm Springs. And the one they called their “dream house.”

In bringing their vision to reality, the Hopes and Lautner composed a stunning, structural symphony blending concrete, steel and glass, crowned by a curving copper roof that complements the sloping contours of the neighboring mountains. Throughout the home’s more than 23,000 square feet, and the grounds that surround it, are features befitting a “contemporary castle,” as Dolores described the estate.
